Aceh Ulema Meeting Urges Prabowo to Declare National Disaster Emergency Status

The cleric stresses the importance of transparency and trustworthiness in managing humanitarian aid.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- Aceh Ulama Resolution 2025, centered on the courtyard of the Baiturrahman Raya Mosque, Banda Aceh City, calls on President Prabowo Subianto to designate the hydrometeorological disaster as a National Disaster Emergency. “The Aceh Clerical Council produced a number of important recommendations related to disaster management, namely the determination of national disasters and strengthening the role of mosques as a unifying community,” said Chairman of the Ulema Consultative Assembly (MPU) of Aceh, Tk H Faisal Ali in Banda Aceh City, Aceh Province, Monday (15/12/2025).

He explained that the meeting was also organized with samadiah and joint prayers for the victims of floods and landslides in Aceh. The activity was centered on the courtyard of the Grand Mosque of Baiturrahman on Sunday (14/12/2025).

Faisal explained that the designation by President is important to speed up the handling of casualties, the restoration of infrastructure, and open access to international humanitarian assistance. It was done in a coordinated and accountable manner.

The scholars in Aceh also asked the Governor of Aceh H Muzakir Manaf (Mualem), along with the regents and mayors of the entire Aceh city to draw up a roadmap for the development of an integrated post-planned Aceh. Development is also oriented towards disaster mitigation, environmental restoration, economic strengthening of the community, as well as the protection of educational institutions and houses of worship.

The scholars also called on local governments to revise budgets to adjust the needs of dealing with floods and landslides. The Aceh cleric also called on the central government to pay serious attention through budget support as well as short-term and long-term strategic measures objectively and proportionally according to the level of emergency.

In other recommendations, the cleric stressed the importance of transparency and trust in the management of humanitarian aid, as well as the enforcement of laws against perpetrators of environmental destruction that contributed to the occurrence of disasters. The people of Aceh are also urged to strengthen social solidarity.

In addition, the public must maintain media and social ethics in the midst of disasters, and avoid slander and provocation. As part of the spiritual quest, the scholars invite the entire community to revive mosques, both in the affected and unaffected areas, through joint prayer, worship, and socio-religious activities to strengthen the spiritual resilience of the people of Aceh.
