REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Bank Indonesia (BI) said the implementation of the halal lifestyle on a wider scale could have a positive impact on the economy not only in Jakarta but also Indonesia.

“The halal lifestyle has an economic impact if you can open a business. Then from a small business it can go up to big. Subsequently, his business activities increased to be export-oriented,” said Assistant Director of the Department of Economy and Finance of Sharia Bank Indonesia Yuri Fathia Zumara in an online event titled “Efforts to Improve Halal Lifestyle” broadcast on the YouTube page of the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta on Wednesday (11/7/2024).

The halal lifestyle is based on choices based on Islamic sharia both in acquiring, choosing, consuming and utilizing goods and services. Its application also includes the consumption of halal food and drinks; then the trend of polite fashion, closing the aura and not damaging the environment; using commercial financial services according to Sharia principles; consumption of halal medicines and cosmetics.

Today, the halal lifestyle is already a trend and is becoming a business ground, given that in terms of numbers, the total Muslim population of the world is quite high. In addition, the current generation is more choosy so it makes the halal lifestyle a reference.

According to Yuri, the city of Jakarta has potential as a region to develop the implementation of halal lifestyle because its ecosystem is already established. The government, he added, just needs to reform this ecosystem.

“On the business side, it has grown. For example, hotels use the term sharia hotel. Adaptation and acceptance of people in Jakarta has been quite high. It is very convenient to characterize the halal lifestyle in Jakarta,” he said.

Yuri said BI plays a role as a regulator, accelerator and initiator in the development of the sharia financial economy in Indonesia, including a halal lifestyle whose demand is increasing.

On the other hand, society has a role in the halal ecosystem starting from awareness related to halal lifestyle then choosing halal products.

“That choice leads us to a better quality life. On the other hand, the choice will create demand, if there is supply already our economy is moving. If it is fulfilled domestically, we can export, there is income for our country,” he said.
