REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA — The peak of Lebaran 2024 reverse flow in the area of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) was reported on Sunday (14/4/2024). On that day, the Department of Transportation (Dishub) of DIY recorded a total of 101,976 vehicles leaving the territory of DIY Province.

The vehicles coming out of the DIY were reportedly predominantly four-wheeled, totalling 62,838 units. Then there were 18,904 two-wheeled or motor vehicles, 12,411 buses, and 7,823 trucks. “Peak (counter-current) on Sunday. Today has started to slow down,” said the Head of Traffic Dishub DIY Rizki Budi Utomo, when contacted on Monday (15/4/2024).

Rizki explained that most of the vehicles left DIY through the eastern door of the border in Prambanan, Sleman Regency, with a total of 41,472 vehicles, and 24,494 vehicles from the north exit of the Tempel post. The rest spread through the western door in Temon, Kulon Progo Regency, and the southern door in Patuk, Gunungkidul Regency.

The number of passengers leaving DIY using public transport on Sunday was recorded as 344,072. The most people reported using buses at the five terminals, which was 20,121 people. Trains were followed by 14,988 passengers and 11,400 aircraft.

Accumulated since H-7 to H+4 lebaran, Rizki said, the total number of vehicles entering DIY territory reached 830,404 units and vehicles exiting DIY reached 949,692 units. According to him, the number of vehicles coming out of DIY on Friday (12/4/2024) is almost the same as that of last Sunday, namely 100,576 vehicles. “So, Friday goes up, Saturday drops dramatically, and Sunday goes back up,” he said.

It was assessed as having an impact on the smoothness of the Lebaran backflow. “I guess traffic flow is smoother because it doesn't stack up on a single peak day,” Rizki said.
