Papuan Police: Eid prayer in Papua is safe

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Papuan Police Chief Irgen Pol Mathius Fakhiri declares that the execution of the Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri prayer in Papua is safe.

“Thank God the implementation of the Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri prayer is safe and it is a testament to the high tolerance in Papua,” Papuan Police Chief Irgen Pol Mathius Fakhiri said in Jayapura on Wednesday.

Met after the Eid al-Fitri prayer of 1445 AH in Mapolda Jayapura Square, the Papuan Chief Minister hopes that tolerance can continue to be maintained so as to set an example for other areas in Indonesia.

“Continue to maintain tolerance among religious people and tighten the bonds of brotherhood so that security is maintained,” he said.

When asked about the security situation in the Papuan Police legal area, Irgen Pol Fakhiri admitted that the security conditions were relatively controlled although there were some areas that were vulnerable.

Security forces, he said, kept watch to provide a sense of security from the interference of armed groups.

“The TNI-police will continue to try to maintain security in the area of their duties, in order to provide a sense of security to the people,” Papuan Police Chief Irgen Pol Mathius Fakhiri said.

The legal area of the Papua Police includes four provinces in the Land of Papua, Papua Mountainous Papua, Central Papua, and South Papua, with 29 districts and cities.
