REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Brunei infrastructure company Brunergy Utama Sdn Bhd plans to build high-speed rail projects in Borneo, Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei. In connection with this, the Director-General of Railways of the Ministry of Transport admitted that he had not heard directly from Brunei.
“That's the proposal yes. Just up to the idea. Operators from Brunei Malaysia want to make KA fast. There has been no talk of anything,” said the Director General of the Ministry of Railways Risal Wasal in the Ministry Building, Wednesday (3/4/2024).
On the other hand, Risal made sure that at present the railway construction plan in the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN) is in place. Risal called the planned Autonomous Rail Transit (ART).
“The showcase used to be to the community was a new train without rails but using rails in another form,” Risal said. Later, ART construction will be applied for airport and urban rail crossings in IKN Nusantara and will be carried out gradually.
Earlier, Brunei infrastructure company Brunergy Utama Sdn Bhd announced it would build a high-speed rail project connecting Borneo, Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei. The fast train is designed to shorten the travel distance between Borneo, Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei.
Quoted from Brunergy Utama Sdn Bhd website, as reported by Malaymail on Tuesday (2/4/2024), the Trans Borneo Railway project will be implemented in two phases involving a route of 1,620 kilometers. Later, the average distance between the stations was 150 KM each and the train speed was between 300 to 350 kilometers per hour with an estimated average travel time between stations of only 30 minutes.
“The first phase will connect cities from the West Coast to the East Coast, starting in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, and ending in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, which is the focus area of the economy,” the site said.
As for the route it will include cities such as Kota Kinabalu, Kimanis/Papar, Beaufort, Sipitang, Lawas, Bangar, Limbang, Bukit Panggal, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Sri Aman, Kuching, Sambas, Singkawang, Sampawah and Pontianak.
