REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANJARMASIN -- The City Government of Banjarmasin is ready to welcome the participants of representatives from seven countries at the Inter-Nation Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) event held on March 28-31, 2024.

“Indonesian Mosque Youth Communication Agency (BKPRMI) from the center came to Banjarmasin some time ago. In addition to talking about the MTQ between nations, we discussed efforts to advance Islam in a multicultural city like Banjarmasin,” said Mayor of Banjarmasin Ibn Sina in Banjarmasin, Saturday (2/3/2024).

He mentioned that at the meeting, the central BKPRMI asked him to become an advisor to the governing organization Malay World and Islamic World (DMDI) of South Kalimantan.

“We are working to encourage the advancement of Islam and Malays with various activities, including through the implementation of this inter-ethnic MTQ,” he said.

Ibn Sina stated that the Government of Banjarmasin fully supports activities related to the advancement of Islam in South Kalimantan, especially in the area called “Kota Seribu Sungai”.

He revealed that Banjarmasin is an area that is very tolerant of differences, which has 34 ethnic tribes and diverse religions.

The diversity of tribes and religions, he said, is a remarkable historical heritage and has been preserved since time immemorial so that harmony between groups is still maintained harmoniously.

Furthermore, this diversity is what led Banjarmasin City to gain the status of a tolerant city.

Ibn Sina stressed although Banjarmasin was named a tolerant city, it should learn much more from other regions in an effort to prevent social conflict from occurring small frictions that could cause divisions.

“I invite all parties, especially regional heads in 13 districts/cities in South Kalimantan, to succeed in the inter-nation MTQ event that will be held at the end of this month,” he said.
