REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The air quality in Jakarta on Monday (1/22/2024) morning is getting better, ranking in the top 70 as the worst air city in the world.

That figure explains the level of air quality in the moderate category, that is, its air quality that has no effect on human or animal health but affects sensitive plants and aesthetic values with a PM2.5 range of 51-100.

While the unhealthy category for sensitive groups can harm humans or sensitive animal groups or can cause damage to plants or aesthetic values.

Then, the good category is the level of air quality that has no effect on human or animal health and has no effect on plants, buildings or aesthetic values with a PM2.5 range of 0-50. Then, very unhealthy categories with PM2.5 ranges of 200-299 or their air quality can be detrimental to health in a number of exposed segments of the population. Finally, it is dangerous (300-500) or in general its air quality can seriously harm the health of the population.

Acting Governor (Pj) of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono has published Governor's Decree (Kepgub) Number 593 of 2023 on the Air Pollution Control Task Force as a policy to accelerate the handling of air pollution.

Later, the Environment Department (DLH) of DKI Jakarta added nine air quality monitoring stations (SPKU) in its territory in an effort to speed up the handling of air pollution by 2024.

The presence of the nine new SPKU is expected to provide more maximum air quality data and could be the main reference of all parties. Then, by 2025, the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta targets the number of SPKU in the Jakarta area to be 25 tools.

In order to maximize its application, the deployment of SPKU throughout the Jakarta area is also supported by other regulations that can improve Jakarta's air quality, one of them through low-emission zones.
