REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The number of plane passengers during the Christmas and New Year holidays in Indoneska showed a recovery rate of 78.8 percent since the pandemic, said Director General of Air Transport Ministry M. Kristi Endah Murni in Jakarta on Thursday (5/1/2023).

Total passengers during that period reached 3,752,128 people or about 78.8 percent of the number of passengers in the same period in 2019, before the pandemic hit, which reached 4,758,589 passengers.

When compared with 3,426,529 passengers during the same period in 2022, the figure is an increase of almost 10 percent.

He also said that 444 commercial passenger planes were operating during that holiday period to ensure people's need for air freight was adequate.

Kritty said all officers have tried to provide the best possible service by keeping safety, security, service and compliance with the applicable rules in place so that there are no undesired events.

He added that it had carried out 2,573 inspections, so each aircraft was on average inspected 4-5 times at various monitoring airports. Based on the inspection results, all aircraft in operation meet airworthiness and operation aspects.

Kristi appreciated all parties involved in the supervision of air freight during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“We thank all airlines, cabin crew on duty, ground handling officers, airport managers and others for their hard work in ensuring safe and comfortable air transportation,” he said.
