REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Presidential Special Staff Coordinator, Ari Dwipayana, said that President Joko Widodo will not attend the anniversary of PDI Struggle next week. At the same time, Jokowi was going on a trip abroad.

“There are plans for some ASEAN countries, but for sure I will tell you again,” Ari said when he met at the Ministry of State Secretariat building in Jakarta on Friday (5/1/2024).

Ari also said he could not confirm whether Jokowi had received an invitation to attend PDIP's 51st Anniversary, which will fall on January 10, 2024.

“I'll check it out first. But if there is a visit abroad it may not (attend),” he said.

He further reiterated that Jokowi's planned visit abroad was not to avoid the important event of the PDIP. “Don't shy away, there must be a plan set up. We wish you a happy birthday, yes (to PDIP),” Ari said.

Jokowi's relationship with the PDIP, the political party that raised his name, is rumoured to be stretched due to the 2024 presidential election. The PDIP fielded Ganjar Pranowo, a figure whom Jokowi had been pushing for.

But in the development, Jokowi's eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, was promoted to vice presidential candidate alongside presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, who was a rival of Ganjar.

So far Jokowi has not acted on Gibran's appointment as vice president, but the PDIP responded harshly to Gibran's nomination, which many said was an instant process and sparked controversy about political dynasties.
