REPUBLICA.CO.ID, CAIRO— There are a number of assumptions circulating among the community that Adam's exit was due to the temptation and seduction of Eve. Is that really so?
Fatwa member of the Egyptian Fatwa Institute, Dar Ifta, Sheikh Dr Amru Al Wardani called the story of Eve's incitement to the Prophet Adam alayhissalam to be expelled from heaven a mere myth.
He said that no verse in the Quran explains that Eve tempted Adam to commit a sin in the form of violating Allah's prohibition against approaching the khuldi tree.
As reported from Masrawy, Quran chapter Al Baqarah verse 37 mentioned that it was the Prophet Adam who asked Allah's forgiveness for his sins, not Eve. From this it is known that Adam's sin was not due to the seduction of Eve. Allah says:
فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَٰتٍ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
“Then Adam received some words from his Lord, and God received his punishment. Verily Allah repents again.” (QS. Al Baqarah verse 37). Even in another verse it is mentioned:
وَعَصَىٰٓ ءَادَمُ رَبَّهُۥ فَغَوَىٰ
It means: “And Adam disobeyed the Lord and led him astray.” (QS Thaha verse 121).
“That this thought is one of the myths we must dispel, because the devil deceived Adam and Eve together and not Eve who handed the tree over to Adam. This is not true. In Islamic law, Satan deceived Adam and Eve together,” he said.
Because of this myth, Eve was treated very badly, and one of the main reasons was this myth. If God had forgiven Adam and forgiven him, then He also forgave Eve.
Sheikh Al Wardani explained that some streams support this myth because they feel and want the satanization of women.
“We have to change the perception of each of us. Like the accusations relating to women that people used to hurl around to justify their poor treatment of women.” he said.
