REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- After the death of the Prophet, many of the people apostatized. The people of Bahrain quit Islam and they elevated al-Mundzir bin an-Nu'man as king.
One of them said: “If Muhammad was truly a Prophet, he should not have died.” All the inhabitants of Bahrain lapsed, except those living in the village of Juwatsa. It was in this village that the first time the Friday prayer was established, when compared to other areas.
Therefore, the apostates surrounded the inhabitants of Juwatsa and narrowed their movement. This state of affairs lasted until they experienced a terrible famine. One of them, 'Abdullah bin Hadzaf, exclaimed:
“Tell Abu Bakr with the intermediary messengers, and tell all the youth of Medina that you will help a group of nobles waiting in Juwatsa, besieged and miserable as if their blood was splattered on every highway like a blessed ray of sunshine. We trust in Allah, indeed we exist and obtain victory for those who trust in Allah.”
Soon after, one of the inhabitants of Juwatsa, al-Jarud ibn al-Mu'alla, arose and cried out, “O inhabitants of Bani 'Abdul Qais, I will ask you a question. Answer my question if you know it, and there is no need to answer if you do not know it! “They also consider:
“Ask! He (al-Jarud) asked: “Do you know that Allah Azza wa Jalla had Prophets before Muhammad? ” They replied: “Yes. ” He asked again: “Do you guys really know it, or is it just your opinion? They replied: “Yes, we really know it. ” He again asked: “Then, what happened to them? They said, “They are all dead.“
He said, “Muhammad is dead as all of them. Therefore, I testify that there is no deity to worship other than Allah Azza wa Jalla and I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Then they followed his cry: “We also testify that there is no deity to worship except Allah Azza wa Jalla and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Truly, you are the best among us, as well as the leader for us. “Thus, the people of Juwatsa remain steadfastly in their embrace of Islam.
Abu Bakr Radhiyallahu Anhu sent al-'Ala' bin al-Hadhrami to resolve the problems in Bahrain. Then the army of Tsumamah bin Atsal Radhiyallahu Anhu joined him. When an army of apostates approached, al-'Ala' got off his vehicle, followed by all the troops.
Even the night came to envelop the Muslims. It was then that al-'Ala' heard a loud noise from the direction where the apostates were. He asked, “Who should investigate their circumstances? “Then one of the Muslim warriors went and broke among the apostates. And, he found them in a state of severe intoxication, to the point of unconsciousness due to the influence of the booze. So he immediately returned and told al-'Ala'. Immediately, al-'Ala' with his army went to the place and killed them. Really, few of them were able to escape. (Tarikh Ath-Thabari)
