Germany Beat France on Penalties to Win Their First U-17 World Cup

Germany wins 4-3 on penalties after 2-2 draw in normal time.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOLO -- Germany won their first U-17 World Cup after defeating France 4-3 on penalties. In normal time, the two teams played a 2-2 draw at Manahan Stadium, Solo, Central Java, Indonesia, on Saturday (2/12/2023)

This was Germany's inaugural title at the U-17 World Cup. While for France, Les Bleuets failed to lift the trophy for a second time after previously being champions at the 2001 edition.

The game proceeds at a fast tempo. Both teams sold each other attacks from the first minute. However, they both had trouble scoring goals.

In the ninth minute Germany created a couple of tries in front of the French goal through a corner kick scheme. Yet they failed to create goals.

Four minutes later, it was France's turn to create a scrum in front of the German goal through a corner kick scheme. But they also failed to score.

The offensive play of Germany and France made the match even more interesting to watch. In the 29th minute, Germany took a 1-0 lead through penalty kick after the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on a French player.

Paris Brunner successfully carried out her duties well. His hard kick was unable to be deflected by the German goalkeeper. The goal was the only goal created in the first half.

Germany took a 2-0 lead when the second half ran six minutes through Noah Darvich. But France quickly reduced the score to 2-1 two minutes from time through Simon Nadelia Bouabre.

France top the number of players after Winners Mark Osawe was red-carded by the referee. This made France more free to attack. The Germans changed their strategy by playing more defense.

However, the Germans were unable to withstand the frenzied attacks of the French players. Through a counter-attacking scheme from the left side of the German defence, France equalised 2-2 through Mathis Amougou's 85th minute tackle. Those scores held until normal time ended and had to proceed to the penalty shootout.

In the penalty shootout, three French kickers failed to execute penalties. While Germany only two failed.
