REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will meet U.S. President Joe Biden during his bilateral visit on Monday (12/11/2023). In his meeting with Biden, Jokowi will deliver a special message from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
“I will also convey a message from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas asking me specifically to convey it to President Biden,” Jokowi said during a press briefing in Washington DC, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat Youtube on Monday (12/11/2023).
In addition, to President Biden, Jokowi will also present the results of the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Jokowi said that the resolution of the OIC summit contained a very strong message to the world regarding the current state of Palestine.
“Thank God the OIC summit produced a resolution that contained a very strong message to the world. And this is the message that I'm going to deliver to President Biden tomorrow, where this is the voice of 57 countries or about a third of the votes of the countries in the world,” he said.
During the OIC summit, Jokowi said that the world today seems helpless to witness the suffering of the Palestinian people. Therefore, Jokowi called on all OIC member states to unite and be at the forefront of the fight for justice for the Palestinian people.
Jokowi also reiterated that a ceasefire must be in place immediately. In addition, humanitarian aid must also be accelerated and increased, and peace negotiations must begin immediately. Jokowi reiterated that public facilities and humanitarian activities should not be targets of attack.
Israel must also be held accountable for the atrocities committed against the Palestinian community. “Israel must be held accountable for the atrocities that have been committed,” Jokowi said.
