REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Chairman of the Presidium Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) Sarbini Abdul Murad confirmed a series of air strikes near the Indonesian Hospital (RS) in Bait Lahiya, Gaza Strip, on Thursday (9/11/2023) evening. He said the attack was launched by Israel without warning.

“Last night's attack was very close to the Indonesian hospital, but not a direct attack on the main building. The ceiling of the hospital is collapsing,” Sarbini told Republika.co.id when it was confirmed about the Israeli air strike on the Indonesian hospital on Friday (10/11/2023).

According to the Palestinian news agency, WAFA, the attack on the Indonesian hospital killed a number of civilians and caused many injuries. Sarbini confirmed the report, but could not give an exact figure.

“There must be a lot of victims. The people (of Gaza) have been dumbfounded in the Indonesian hospital. It is estimated that 15 thousand people are blind in the Indonesian hospital and in the surroundings outside the Indonesian hospital,” he said.

He said the attack on the area around the Indonesian hospital on Thursday night was launched by Israel without giving any warning. “There is no warning. This air strike is to terrorize residents into emptying North Gaza, where people do not want to leave North Gaza and they are sheltering in Indonesian hospitals,” Sarbini said.

According to Sarbini, there are currently more than 1,000 patients being treated or treated in Indonesian hospitals. “In RS Indonesia, not only patients, but residents also take shelter,” he said.

Israeli fighter jets launched a series of air strikes into the area around the Indonesian hospital late on Thursday. The news about the attack around the Indonesian hospital was reported by WAFA.

“Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes around the hospital, which housed tens of thousands of wounded and displaced people, most of whom were children and women, killing scores of civilians and wounding many others,” WAFA wrote in its report.

According to WAFA, a series of Israeli air strikes also caused serious damage to several Indonesian hospital facilities. The Israeli attack also sparked panic from civilians sheltering in the hospital.

US political activist Jackson Hinkle posted a video on his X (Twitter) account showing the moment Israel launched an air strike around an Indonesian hospital. The 35-second video captured a series of explosions, but the target was not clearly visible as the recorder took cover behind a car.

Video apparently recorded from the parking area showed several civilians running around seeking shelter when the attack occurred. “Heavy Israeli bombings near Gaza's Indonesian hospital right now,” Jackson Hinkle wrote when he uploaded the video to his X account on Thursday at 11:39pm.

Since the outbreak of the latest fighting between Hamas and Israel on October 7, 2023, Hinkle has been active in uploading photos and videos showing the brutality of Israel's indiscriminate aggression into Gaza. Through his X account, which has 2 million followers, Hinkle also frequently criticizes and scorns Western double standards on the Israeli-Palestinian issue.

Israeli attacks around Indonesian hospitals have occurred several times. On November 5, 2023, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari accused Hamas of using several hospitals in Gaza, including Indonesian hospitals, to hide its operations headquarters underground. MER-C, as the party that initiated the construction of the Indonesian RS immediately denied the IDF's claims.

“We deny the allegations. We built RS Indonesia in a truly professional context, according to the needs of the people of Gaza, then and now. What Israel alleges could be a pre-condition for Israel to carry out an attack on an Indonesian hospital in Gaza,” Sarbini Abdul Murad told a news conference in Jakarta on Monday (6/11/2023).
