“Closer to the 2024 election, leadership issues need to get the attention of all parties. Specifically, PWNU Jakarta held this discussion looking at how Islamic views on leadership criteria, so that people have guidelines in choosing the ideal leader for this country,” Mukti Ali said in his statement received by Republika.co.id on Sunday (22/11/2023).

Mukti hoped that the maqashid shariah discussed in this session will be used as a guiding standard. It could be used to judge who among all the emerging leaders by far is the most worthy to lead the country. All in all, it emphasizes the importance of leaders with integrity.

He explained that the maqashid shariah consists of a number of basic rights, namely hifzhud din (safeguarding the right of freedom of religion), hifzhun nafs (safeguarding the right to life), hifzhul 'aql (safeguarding the rights of thought and opinion), hifzhul 'rdh (safeguarding human dignity), hifzhun nasl (safeguarding descendants and family resilience), and hifzhul mal (safeguarding property).

"These basic rights can serve as a standard and reference for society to choose the (next Indonesian) leader; (the one) who is considered most capable of fulfilling those rights,” he said.
