REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LAMPUNG -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the 140.9-kilometer-long Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar toll road on Friday. It was the longest toll road that he has officiated so far.
"Yes, this is the longest toll road that we have ever inaugurated, as this is very long, up to Terbanggi Besar," Jokowi stated after officiating the toll road.
In June 2019, the new toll road is expected to be connected up to Palembang, South Sumatra, reaching a total length of 350 kilometers. He expressed hope that the new toll road would attract investment in Lampung Province and create job opportunities.
With the new toll road becoming operational, it would take 90 minutes to cover the Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar route, as compared to four to five hours by regular road. The president also inaugurated a new terminal of the Radin Intan 2 Airport and an executive pier of the Merak and Bakauheni seaport in Lampung.
Minister of State Enterprises (BUMN) Rini Soemarno, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Agrarian and Spatial Minister/Head of the National Agrarian Agency (BPN) Sofyan Djalil, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Governor of Lampung Ridho Ficardo were present at the inauguration ceremony.
