REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the issue of land conflicts and land disputes was creepy. He said that some people had even taken machetes to defend their land ownership, which was why his government focused on land certificate programs for the people.

"There are those who carry machetes to defend their land," Jokowi stated, at the Maulana Yudha Tigaraksa Field in Tangerang, Banten, on Monday.

He noted that by possessing ownership of the certificate, the community could stay calm and remain free of the possibility of land disputes. That has been carried out according to the president's initiatives regarding the ownership of land certificates.

"Dispute occurs if people have lands but no certificates. They can stay calm if they have the certificates," he remarked.

He noted that the land certificate program for the people had accelerated during his administration because he always found so many conflicts and land disputes.

"This certificate program has been accelerated, facilitated, and simplified because every time I go to an area, I hear about land disputes and land conflicts everywhere," he revealed.

He stressed the importance of ownership of certificates for the people as proof of their legal rights to the land owned. On that occasion, the president handed over five thousand land certificates to the community in Tangerang and surrounding areas.

Before handing over the certificate, he took time to greet people who had been waiting for him for a long time, shaking hands with them. Some of them even had the opportunity to take pictures with him.

The president was accompanied by ATR Minister / Head of BPN Sofyan A. Djalil, Moeldoko Presidential Chief of Staff, Banten Governor Wahidin Halim, and Tangerang Regent A. Zaki Iskandar.
