Jokowi denies Prabowo's statement on price of rice and meat

Prabowo says price of rice and meat in Indonesia as the priciest in the world.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BENGKULU -- Incumbent President Joko Widodo denied statement of presidential candidate number 02, Prabowo Subianto about the price of meat and rice in Indonesia as the priciest in the world. In contrast, Jokowi said the price of food in Indonesia, especially meat and rice are among the cheapest in the world.

Jokowi admitted that he prices of foods in Indonesia are probably still higher than other countries, such as Vietnam or Bangladesh. However, compared to most other countries, price of foods in Indonesia is still cheaper, he said.

"Try to check our position in term of food prices (meat and rice) all over the world. We are one of the countries with the cheapest prices in the world, whether its rice or meat," Jokowi said after attending Tanwir Muhammadiyah in Bengkulu, on Friday (Feb 15).

Jokowi also added that the community could also choose the type and quality of meat to be purchased. The community, he said, could buy beef at a price of Rp80 thousand per kg, Rp120 thousand per kg, or Rp500 thousand per kg for wagyu types.

On one occasion in Central Java, Prabowo made a statement that the price of rice and meat in Indonesia were one of the highest in the world. Prabowo then promised to improve the economic conditions of the Indonesian people if he won the 2019 Presidential Election.
