REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Photographs of red and white flag with a logo of the National Awakening Party (PKB) were circulating in social media on Wednesday. PBB acknowledged the flags as theirs.
However, Secretary General of PKB Abdul Kadir Karding explained the initial design of the flag different with the existing. Earlier, PKB flags were designed to have red and white accent. They did not use red and white as background of PKB symbol.
"Flags produced and designed by PKB meet the standard, unlike the flags shown in the photographs. Our flags have PKB logo with a red and white check mark," Karding said to Republika.co.id, on Wednesday (Nov 7).
Therefore, he called on the people not to questioned the flag. He asserted it did not violate regulation on national flag.
"It could be questioned if it was a red and white flag that was covered with PKB symbol," he remarked.
PKB was ready to review the flag as it has been questioned widely, he said. PKB flags with red and white background were found in the party's event in Surabaya, East Java, on last September 28.
Law expert from Al Azhar University Prof. Suparji Ahmad reminded political parties to be careful in using red and white flags during campaign. He called on all parties to avoid using the national flag as background of party's logo.
Moreover, the public had perceived red and white flag as the country's flag. PKB could be exposed to criminal offenses if the party attached its logo to red and white flag.
"Do not use state symbols," he said when contacted by Republika.co.id, on Wednesday.
The Law Number 24 Year 2009 on Flags, Languages, and National Symbols and National Anthems prohibits any images or other marks being printed or embroidered or written on the state flag.
