Jasa Raharja pays compensation to families of JT 610 victims

Compensation paid by Jasa Raharja to each of the victim worth Rp50 million.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The state-owned insurance company PT Jasa Raharja has handed over compensation to the families of four out of the seven victims of the Lion Air plane crash. The compensation was paid to the families of the four identified victims namely Jannatun Cintya Dewi (24), Candra Kirana (29), Monni (41) and Wahyu Susilo (31).

According to Director of Risk Management and Information Technology Services of the Jasa Raharja, Wahyu Wibowo at the Said Sukanto Police Hospital in Jakarta on Sunday, the compensation paid by this insurance company to each of the victim worth Rp50 million. In accordance with the rules regarding compensation for dead victims, Jasa Raharja submits compensation of Rp50 million in the form of savings to the victims' legal heirs.

Wibowo said, compensation to the other three victims who have been identified namely Hezekiah Jorry Saroinsong (23), Endang Sri Bagusnita (20) and Fauzan Azima (25) has not been submitted as their heirs have yet met PT Jasa Raharja's officials.

Meanwhile, Lion Air said beneficiaries of crashed JT 610 victims will receive compensation of more than Rp1.3 billion, which includes compensation or insurance and baggage claims from the company. "For insurance claims, Lion Air follows Minister of Transportation Regulation N0.77 of 2011, but the compensation must be adjusted to the status of the victims," Corporate Communications officer of Lion Air, Danang Mandala Prihantoro, said here on Saturday.

The family of each passenger will receive compensation in the form of insurance claims amounting to Rp1.25 billion, baggage claims Rp50 million, waiting compensation Rp5 million and grief money Rp25 million. Lion Air also fully facilitates family's needs in Jakarta such as hotels, transportation, food and drink, during the search and identification process of bodies.

The airlines also provides round trip tickets for families as well as fees or tickets for delivery of the bodies for the funeral process. Based on the provisions of the ministerial regulation, passengers with the dead status of an aircraft accident will receive compensation of Rp1.25 billion. While if the passenger survives, the calculation will be different.

The Lion Air JT 610 aircraft crashed off the Tanjung Karawang coast in West Java on Monday (Oct 29). The Lion Air plane, with 189 people on board, en route to Depati Amir Airport in Pangkalpinang, crashed into the waters of Tanjung Karawang just 13 minutes after takeoff from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 6:20 a.m. West Indonesia Standard Time.

The aircraft was scheduled to arrive in Pangkalpinang at 7:05 a.m. local time, according to the Depati Amir Airport authority in Pangkalpinang. Before it lost contact, the aircraft had sought permission to return to Jakarta due to a problem.
