Tawheed rally participants to pray for Lion Air victims

Participants ask police to admit that the flag burned was bearing tawheed sentence.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Chairman of Alumni 212, Slamet Maarif said he participants of tawheed (Laa Ilaha Ilallah, the oneness of God) defense rally II will hold joint prayer prior to the protest of tawheed flag-burning incident. He stated the rally will be attended by tens of thousands people.

“Today, tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands people will begin peaceful rally by praying for Lion Air victims. We will pray together, Insya Allah (God’s will) the more, the better for praying together,” Slamet said on Friday (Nov 2).

Slamet stressed that the rally staged without negating the grief of the people, especially over Lion Air flight JT 610 accident, earthquake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi, also earthquake in Lombok. He said participants of the second tawheed rally would not forget to pray for the sake of the country.

According to Slamet, the second tawheed defense rally will be attended by 48 Islamic community organizations from a number of regions. He said people from Java came by bus. In addition, there were also people from Medan and Bangka Belitung who join the peaceful event.

Last Friday (Oct 26), around one thousand Muslims coming from the capital city and its surrounding areas had staged a rally in front of the Coordinating Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Ministry in Central Jakarta for protesting this flag-burning incident.  Slamet said tawheed defense rally was held for the second time since the authorities and government have not touched substance of tawheed flag burning incident.

He asserted government did not declare the flag as a flag containing Arabic writing of tawheed. “We will urge government to admit the flag contains tawheed sentence,” Slamet added.

Slamet reminded police to work and act fairly in processing the case. Although all the parties involved have been determined as suspects, but they were snared with Article 174 Criminal Code (KUHP) on allegation of making an uproar on a general assembly, not Article 156a KUHP on blasphemy.

Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) stated the flag that was burned in the incident was tawheed flag. No symbol of disbanded organization, Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia, symbol in the flag. MUI also asked perpetrators of the incident to apologize and admit their mistake to Muslims.

Earlier, Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) has discussed the Tauhid's flag burning incident with their counterpart Muhammadiyah on Wednesday. Both Muslim organisations agreed to round off this issue. 

According to head of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir, GP Ansor and PBNU have apologized for the incident which spark outraged recently. The problem is already solved and does not need to be extended anymore. 

“GP Ansor and PBNU have apologized for the incident. But, we agree in Indonesia there should be no ideologies and movements that contrary with Pancasila,” Haedar explained.

Muhammadiyah and NU have the same duties to safeguard the country's ideology, said Haedar. Therefore, Muhammadiyah's has handed over Tauhid's flag burning case entirely to the police.
