Police investigates non-technical cause of JT 610 accident

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police also investigated the case of Lion Air flight JT 610 accident. In this case, National Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) sought to investigate non-technical cause that made the aircraft crashed in the waters of Karawang Regency, West Java on last Oct 29.

“National Police Criminal Investigation Unit has formed a special team to investigate, which will focus on non-technical flights,” said National Police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo on Thursday (Nov 1).

Meanwhile, for technical reason of the plane crash, Dedi said police is coordinating with National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT). According to him, KNKT has duty as leading sector in investigating the cause of airplane crash and reporting if there is criminal indication.

“National Police duty is trying to uncover the non-technical side of Lion Air flight accident,” Dedi added.

Dedi added, the team has conducted investigation of Lion Air flight JT 610, started from trip before accident, which was Denpasar - Jakarta route, and the day the accident happened, especially when the aircraft departed from Jakarta to Pangkalpinang. He said the team has also explored the profiles of all parties involved in the flight.

Regarding Lion Air flight JT 610 accident, Lion Air’s technical director has been released temporarily from duty. Technical staff who recommend the flight has also been suspended.

Aircraft type B737-8 Max with Flight Number JT 610 owned by Lion Air was flying from Soekarno Hatta Airport in Banten to Depati Amir Airport in Pangkal Pinang and was reported to have lost contact on Oct 29 at around 06:33 WIB (Indonesia West Standard Time).

The aircraft, which bore the registration number PK-LQP, was reportedly last sighted on radar at coordinates 05 46.15 S - 107 07.16 E. The aircraft departed at 06:10. WIB and was scheduled to arrive in Pangkal Pinang at 07.10 WIB. The plane had requested a return to base before finally disappearing from the radar.

National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has ensured that JT 610 Lion Air crashed in the waters of Karawang Regency.
