REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has contributed tents to build temporary classes for children who became victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi. UNICEF also provided some educational equipment.

"Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture has cooperated with UNICEF to build temporary classes for children who stay in the shelters," Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said in a press conference held here on Tuesday.

UNICEF announced the arrival of 30 tons of aid materials to support education activities for children living in shelters in Central Sulawesi after the disaster. The aid included 65 tents. UNICEF also provided some educational equipment.

Ministry of Education and Culture and UNICEF have planned to build 450 temporary classes in the disaster-affected areas of Central Sulawesi. Effendy explained that so far there have been 18 tents for classes in some shelters in Central Sulawesi.

The UNICEF Representative to Indonesia, Debora Comini, mentioned that only 65 tents from Dubai have so far have arrived in Central Sulawesi. Meanwhile, as many as 135 tents and 200 boxes of educational equipments will arrive on Wednesday and Thursday.

"We also cooperate with the Ministry of Social Affairs to help the children recover through traumatic healing program," Comini revealed.
