REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WEST LOMBOK -- Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the arrival of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB) leaders to Lombok and Palu was a form of sympathy and solidarity to disaster victims. He asserted that 2018 Annual Meeting of IMF-WB in Bali was not related to debt.

“We are a sovereign country and hosting the event has nothing to do with seeking loan. We are lucky the preparation in Bali has been good,” said Luhut when accompanying IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde in Guntur Macan Village, Gunungsari District, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara on Monday (Oct 8).

Luhut said the presence of IMF-WB leaders to Lombok and Palu is very important because it could be an input for discussion at a meeting in Bali, including in raising assistance from the delegates.

“The benefit of IMF-WB Annual Meeting is abundant, we will also take OIC members to Lombok after the event to discuss of Islamic finance issues,” Luhut added.

Luhut claimed that he did not know the amount of aid from IMF-WB which would be distributed for victims in West Nusa Tenggara and Central Sulawesi. He also said that government has given enough funds for disaster management.

“We still don’t know, from government itself there’s no problem and Mrs Ani (Finance Minister Sri Mulyani) has given enough funds, president has also ordered funding of disaster management,” Luhut explained.
