Kalla discusses financial inclusion with Queen Maxima

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NEW YORK -- Indonesian Vice President M Jusuf Kalla held a meeting with Queen Maxima of the Netherlands who is also the United Nations Secretary General's Special Advocate (UNSGSA) for Inclusive Finance for Development to discuss financial inclusion, on the sidelines of the 73rd General Assembly of the UN, here, Tuesday. Kalla was flanked by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi during the 20 minute-meeting.

The Vice President informed about the developments of financial inclusion in Indonesia. Indonesia has conducted financial inclusion through various policies applied by the government such as in providing small scale credits (KUR).

In addition to, Indonesia has also development financial technology (fintech), which is communication and information technology-based financing companies.

Kalla also met with his U.S. counterpart Mike Pence discussing issues of bilateral relations between the two countries. The meeting took place on Tuesday local time at Lotte New York Palace where JK stayed.

"We talked about bilateral relations. Next year would be the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. Therefore, we want to strengthen the good relations," JK said after the meeting.

He said Indonesia has an opportunity to expand trade with the United States amid the trade war between the United States and China, as Jakarta has no problem with Washington in trade. He said he also discussed with Pence regional issues such as political developments in the Korean peninsula, Myanmar and Afghanistan.

He said Indonesia as the world's largest Muslim country has an important role in settling conflicts. "And he (Pence) saw and agreed that Indonesia could play an important role," he said.
