REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy said the submission to appoint honorary teachers to become civil servants (PNS) in 2018 has been approved. The appointment quota this year reached 100,000 honorary teachers.

“There is already an agreement, Insya Allah (God willing) 100 thousand quotas, as Mr Vice President conveyed,” said Muhadjir on Wednesday (August 29).

According to Muhadjir, Ministry of Education and Culture actually proposed more than 100 thousand quotas. However, the quota that was approved by Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform was 100 thousand honorary teachers to be appointed as civil servants throughout Indonesia.

Muhajdir also said that there would be a process that must be passed in the appointment of honorary teachers. However, he could not give information yet on the appointment time.

He asserted he did not have the authority to appoint honorary teachers to become civil servants, but it only proposed as a replacement for teachers who retired this year. If state has enough money and with good economic condition, he believed the appointment can be done with a greater number of proposals.

He also revealed it took seven years to appoint honorary teachers throughout Indonesia, which numbered 736 thousand people to become civil servants teachers. "The number of honorary teachers throughout Indonesia is currently around 736 thousand, so if for example every year the government appoints 100 thousand honorary teachers, it will take more than seven years to solve the problem of honorary teachers," Muhadjir explained.
