REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Gerindra Party deputy chairman Fadli Zon denied the accusation from Democratic Party’s elite Andi Arief on Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno's plan to tackle Prabowo Subianto as presidential candidate. He stated that Sandiaga’s name came up in the discussion about vice presidential candidate of the opposition camp as a part of political dynamics.
“It’s not like that (Sandiaga wants to tackle Prabowo) and about cardboard's coalition, I think it’s only an opinion that doesn’t need to be responded,” said Fadli on Thursday (Aug 9). "Cardboard" was a term used by Andi to describe corrupt politician.
Fadli said the emergence of Sandiaga's name as vice presidential candidate who would accompany Prabowo in 2019 presidential election was a normal thing. However, the decision is not final yet.
He said there have been discussions among Prabowo’s supporting parties. Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), for example, would held an internal meeting. National Mandate Party (PAN) also would stage its national working meeting (Rakernas). Fadli then also stressed Democratic Party to hold internal meeting.
“So tomorrow we will finalize it because we still have time,” Fadli added.
Gerindra Party expected four political parties, namely its party, PKS, PAN, and Democratic Party will be coalition parties for 2019 presidential election. According to Fadli, the more supports will further strengthen the coalition formation.
Moreover, Fadli said the task to manage the country can not be done alone. Therefore, it needed a strong formation. The coalition must be able to hear the voices of aspirations from community, including from ulemas, priests, and other religious figures, as well as professionals.
“So, this process is not only a game of political elites, but we also accommodate the aspirations from community," Fadli said.
Earlier, Andi Arief through his his personal Twitter account @AndiArief__ said Sandiaga had attempted to thwart Prabowo Subianto's candidacy in 2019 presidential election. He even said Sandiaga sent his men to meet him.
“One day Sandi Uno met me to overthrow Prabowo and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono candidacy and change it to be him and AHY, then I tell it to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) then he said won’t betray Prabowo,” Andri wrote.
Andi also made statement related to transactional politics. He said Sandiaga gave Rp 500 billion to PKS and PAN in his bid to be vice presidential candidate.
