REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) held the latest survey related to 2019 presidential election. The survey result stated that electability of President Joko Widodo is 58.2 percent or outperformed Prabowo Subianto with 26.6 percent.

LIPI researcher, Wawan Ichwanuddin said there were various simulations in the survey. For example, with closed questions when 2019 presidential election is followed by three names, Jokowi's electability is 57.4 percent, Prabowo 25.8 percent, and Gatot Nurmantyo 4.9 percent.

If 2019 presidential election was followed by five names, Jokowi’s electability is 55 percent, Prabowo 22.9 percent, Gatot 4.3 percent, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) 3.1 percent, and Anies Baswedan 3.2 percent. Meanwhile, if the choice of candidates surveyed with open questions, Jokowi got 45 percent, Prabowo 17 percent, and Gatot Nurmantyo 1 percent.

Another LIPI researcher Syamsuddin Haris said Jokowi’s electability is 58 percent due to  the level of public satisfaction is high enough with his performance as president. However, the electability number is safe, if 2019 presidential election is only by two pairs of candidates.

“But, if contestation of election followed by three candidate pairs, Jokowi’s electability of 58 percent is not safe because there is possibility of support split," Syamsuddin said on Thursday (19/7).

LIPI survey was conducted from April 26 to May 9 in all Indonesia provinces with 2,100 respondents who have the right to vote. The survey methodology used multistage random sampling with a margin of error of plus-minus 2.14 percent.
