Syafruddin urges campus to be wary of terrorism

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin urged academic community in campus to be wary on the terrorist network movement. His statement came following an arrest on three suspected terrorists at Riau University's Social and Political Sciences Department in Pekanbaru.

"We urge to all campus to be wary of terrorist movements, even though the incident was done by one person only, but it can make the name of campus becomes worse," said Syafruddin on Monday (June 4).

The arrest of suspected terrorists at Riau University is the development of terror attack case at Riau Police Headquarters. One of suspects who arrested at Riau University (Unri), MNZ has admitted that he got an order to assemble a bomb from Mursalim aka Pak Ngah, the leader of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah in Riau.

"The suspect at Riau University is part of Pak Ngah group, don't generalize the campus," Syafruddin added.

Syafruddin said all parties need to be vigilant in order to prevent campus from terrorist infiltration. The duty should not only charged to the security apparatus. All of the campus society must be aware.

On last Saturday (June 2), three suspected terrorists --Z, B, and K -- were arrested in a student facility building, Gelanggang Mahasiswa, at Riau University's Social and Political Sciences Department in the provincial capital, Pekanbaru. The three were alumni of Tourism, Communication and State Administration Study from 2002 to 2005.

The police seized four high explosive hand-made bombs and some material to make a bomb in the building. Gelanggang Mahasiswa in universities are used as secretariats for various activities, including sports and student newspapers.
