REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Government is optimistic revision of Bill on Terrorism to be completed before Eid al-Fitr this year. Nevertheless, government expected that the discussion of Draft Law on Terrorism will not be rushed.
"The most important is before Eid Al-Fitr the revision is completed, don't rush it,
said Wiranto on Thursday (May 17).
However, Wiranto refused to comment further related to dissenting opinion on the arrangements in the revision. Not to mention about the division of roles between Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police.
On last May 14, Wiranto said the government and House of Representatives (DPR) agreed to complete Draft Law on Terrorism. He said the discussion of revision that has been going on for two years will be passed soon, so there is no need to issue lieu of law (Perppu) on terrorism crime, as President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said before.
We agree that we shouldn't need to use Perppu, but we must complete Draft Law on Terrorism together, Wiranto added.
Draft Law on Terrorism is revision of Law No. 15/2003 on eradication of terrorism crime. It has been two years since government proposed revision of the law.
Wiranto said the new law will be legal umbrella that needed by National Police, TNI, and all security apparatus to take firm action and prevent terrorism acts.
