REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) has officially closed Wasathiyyah Islamic Summit at the Vice President's Palace on Thursday (May 3). JK expected the result of consultation, namely Bogor Messege, can give lesson that Islamic teachings bring peace on earth.

JK also highlighted conflicts and wars in some Islamic countries. Indonesia, as the worlds largest Muslim country feels responsible for creating a peaceful Islam.

As the country with largest Muslim population in the world, we feel responsible for creating peaceful Islam, so there will be peace with other countries, said JK on Thursday (May 3).

JK said there are two factors that caused Muslim countries experienced conflict. First, the intervention from big countries. Second, radical thoughts that triggered bloody conflict.

The radical mind has lead to many suicide and war on behalf of jihad that can harm others. JK criticized younger generation of Muslims who wish to commit suicide in the name of religion, in order to reach heaven with ease. Whereas in Islam, killing children, women, and even only destructive plans are forbidden.

Therefore, there must be teachings that need to be straightened, so our ulemas must think how to teach Islam well, JK added.

JK expected Wasathiyyah Islamic Summit would not be just a conference. However, the summit could contribute to stop the radical teachings that cause problems in Islamic countries.
