Police should not be reckless in deducing Monas incident

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Association of Indonesian Muslim Advocates (IKAMI) general secretary, Djuju Purwantoro expressed his concern and regret over death of two children during event For You Indonesia held by Forum untuk Indonesia (Forum for Indonesia) in Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (April 28). He asked police to not be reckless by taking a conclusion too early on the cause of death of the victims.

Police must act promptly to investigate anyone who involved in the incident without intervention and discrimination, said Djudju on Wednesday (May 2).

Djudju said, the organizer of event must also be responsible. He assessed the organizer has not been careful. Their recklessness claimed lives of others. He considered it as negligence or culpa offense in law.

Meanwhile, chairman of committee For You Indonesia, Dave Santosa denied cause of death of two children was because of jostling when queuing sembako. Evaluation result of the event concluded that there was no report of stampede or commotion during the event.

The incident has been circulating in social media since Saturday (April 28).

Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno revealed that it was a real incident on Monday (April 30) night.

Sandiaga explained the two dead victims were Pademangan, West Jakarta citizens. "They were identified as MJ (12 yo) and R (10 yo)," Sandiaga said at City Hall.
