Jokowi to discuss vp-candidate with supporting parties

Jokowi will also discuss the criteria of the vice-presidential candidate.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- President Joko Widodo, Jokowi, said his would-be running mate, has not been confirmed yet. He further said the vice-presidential candidate who will accompany him and the criteria will be discussed along with his supporting parties.

"I will announce it later, after I talk it over with the other parties," Jokowi remarked after the handing over of customary land certificates here on Friday.

Jokowi has thanked the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) for officially nominating him as the 2019-2024 presidential candidate. During the third National Congress, Megawati Soekarnoputri, PDIP's general chairperson, used her prerogative right to rename Jokowi as the party's presidential hopeful for the 2019-2024 period.

"I personally say thank you for the trust given, especially with the theme of the third National Congress (of PDIP), 'Self-reliant development pattern for Indonesia Raya'," the president said.

According to him, the self-reliant spirit has been mentioned in the message of the PDIP general chairperson, especially in terms of food, energy, defense, and finance. 

Meanwhile, the General Election Commission (KPU) decided on Saturday (February 17) to clear 14 political parties as eligible electoral contestants for the 2019 general elections.

"The KPU has conducted administrative examinations and factual verification of political parties as contestant candidates for the 2019 general elections," KPU Chairman Arief Budiman said here on Saturday.

Budiman noted that 16 political parties were verified, of which two failed. The 14 political parties approved by the KPU are National Mandate Party, Working Party, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, Democratic Party, Great Indonesia Movement Party, Garuda Party, Golkar Party, and People`s Conscience Party, Prosperous Justice Party, Nasdem Party, Perindo Party, United Development Party, National Awakening Party, and Indonesian Solidarity Party.

Crescent and Star Party (PBB) and Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI) were the two political parties that failed to pass the KPU selection.
