REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- President Joko Widodo, while handing over the pure communal land certificates in Bali on Friday, said that even now, many worship houses in Indonesia were on disputed lands. Jokowi admitted that every time he made a visit to a region, he found land disputes.

"This is understandable given the fact that of the 126 million certificates that should have been issued across Indonesia, only 51 million have been distributed, so far," he said.

The president urged the National Land Agency (BPN) to accelerate the issuance of land certificates. It is expected that this year, a total of seven million certificates will be issued and another nine million in next year.

The president threatened to discharge ministers if they were unable to reach the target set earlier this year. On the occasion, Jokowi also expressed happiness for getting the opportunity to meet all stakeholders in the Pakraman village of Bali.

The head of the state also expressed gratitude for the fact that on the occasion, a total of 845 communal land certificates were issued. "We have a target that Bali will be the first province next year to get all land certificates," he remarked.
