REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The cases of attack to religious leader figures have caught House of Representatives speaker Bambang Soesatyo's attention. He condemned the newest case experienced by Kiai Hakam Mubarok, the leader of Islamic Boarding School Muhammadiyah Karangasem Paciran in Lamongan, East Java. Kiai Hakam was attacked by a man who alleged has mental illness at al Manar Mosque ahead of Zuhr prayer on Sunday (Feb 18).

Bambang asserted violence against people, especially religious leaders could never be justified in any law or religious teachings. "I strongly condemn the violence act against religious leaders in Indonesia. For whatever reason, it must be stopped. Don't happen again," said Bambang on Monday (Feb 19).

Bambang or usually called Bamsoet asked authorities to investigate the violence that occurred in Lamongan. There should be no particular party who can take advantage of the incident.

"The police should immediately and seriously investigate the case and dismantle the motive behind the attack on religious leaders, and if the police do not move quickly, I am afraid there will be parties that provoke our community so that harmony and peace can be disrupted," Bamsoet explained.

Bamsoet also asked people to not to be provoked for this act. All people is asked to remain vigilant against the effort of pitting the others.

"There is no religious or cultural basis that educates us to commit acts of violence, I hope people are not provoked, Bamsoet added.
