REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WAMENA --  National Road Construction Operator (PJN), Region IV Wamena, plans to connect the Trans Papua Jayawijaya-Jayapura sections by 2019. PJN Working Unit Chief, Region IV Wamena, Togap Harianto said here on Friday that a section of 165 roads to Jayapura has been connected, leaving a four km stretch that will be completed this year.

"Starting from Jayawijaya, we will construct around four more kilometres in 2018 with the existing funds. The remaining one from Jayapura will be constructed by Jayapura. This will connect the roads," he said.

The total length of roads covered by PJN Region IV Wamena from Jayawijaya to Jayapura passing through some districts is 169 km.

The remaining roads to be constructed by both PJN Wamena and Jayapura National Road Agency measure 16 km, and from then on, it is PJN Wamena's responsibility to complete four km. "The width of the road is 11 metres. The body of the road is 7 metres with shoulders plus ditch four metres," he said.

A number of bridges must also be constructed to complete the Jayawijaya-Jayapura road but that will be done after the road work is finished. "So, in 2018, we expect the road to be connected and we can finish the bridges in 2019," Harianto remarked.

Meanwhile, Planning Bureau Chief, Region IV Jayawijaya, Daleh Ompusonggu, said some roads are being upgraded while others are being constructed anew. "There is asphalt work section From Wamena to Elelim (Yalimo District) but new construction is needed from Elelim to Jayapura," he added.
