REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Jakarta director, Alghiffari Aqsa refused to meet the Jakarta Metro Police's summons on Thursday (January 25). He said, as Novel Baswedan's lawyer he is not the right witness to be summoned by the police, as regulated on Article 1 paragraph (26) Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). "My capasity is as a lawyer and obviously not a witness," he said.
Head of Public Relation of Jakarta Metro Police, Argo Yuwono said Alghifarri and Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak were summoned for the same reason. The summonses of several people as witness in Novel case was not meant to silence the critics.
The police wanted to ask clarification to Alghiffari and Dahnil regarding their statement on the existance of witness in the acid attack case to anti-graft body's investigator. The statement came during "Metro Realitas" show broadcasted by Metro TV on January 8, 2018. "If they really have witness, we can use some help," Argo said to Republika.co.id, on Thursday (January 25).

According to Agro, Alghiffari ever stated that he has witness in Novel's acid attack case. Alghiffari also said he will bring his witness to the police. "So we want to know further about his statement and we expect his testimony can help police to reveal the attack case," Argo added.
Earlier, after questioning Dahnil on January 22, police said the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Youth chairman's statement was merely an opinion. He could not describe in detail about witnesses in Novel's case as he did not get first hand information.
Argo said, Dahnil personal opinion could end up to accusation which is not justified in religion or the constitution. "He took the conclusion from discussion with several figures, the news, and his own thought," Argo remarked.
