REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,  JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has stated that the statement of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhasan) on the existence of five House factions that supported lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) was indeed positive. The statement reaped protests from various parties, especially from the factions in the House of Representatives (DPR), as they did not want to be accused of being pro-LGBT.

"The Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly has awakened the public on the importance of vigilance against LGBT dangers and free sex behavior," MUI Deputy Chairman Zainut Tauhid Saadi noted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He has revealed that LGBT and free sex are clearly contrary to cultural values, religion, and the state ideology Pancasila.

Hasan's statement has actually dismissed the allegations of tens of billions of rupiah being funded by foreign agencies to the House of Representatives to legalize LGBT and free sex through the amendment of the articles in the Criminal Code.

It can be proved by the commitment of all faction leaders in the DPR who have declared their opposition of LGBT and free sex practices openly and promised to support the completion of discussion on a bill on Criminal Code (RKUHP) especially in relation to the articles on decency (adultery) and fornication (LGBT).

The discussion is planned to be expanded to the interpretation of the RKUHP, not only with certain groups but also with other parties contrary to the values of the noble philosophy of the nation.

"MUI has expressed its highest appreciation to the faction leaders in the DPR who have committed to fulfill the aspirations and expectations of the people," he remarked.

He expressed hope that the legislators' pledges and commitments are truly realized and not just a political commodity, lip service, or simply false hopes.

"The MUI has invited all components of the community to support the national legislation program, especially those related to the discussion of the RKUHP, in order to run smoothly and produce laws that are in line with the cultural values, religious norms, and the Pancasila principles," he revealed.
