REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- Bandung mayor Ridwan Kamil expressed his readiness to fight and eradicate the activity related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people that occur in his city. He, who often called 'Kang Emil' insisted that he will not compromise with it.
"As a leader and a Muslim, I strongly reject and never support LGBT," said Emil on Monday (January 15).
He admitted, he was once involved in a 'war' with LGBT activists on social media. Emil said, he has no doubt to fight against whoever support LGBT. "If you are campaigning LGBT in social media, I will surely fight against it," he said.
Bandung City Government also ever raided gay society activity in last 2015. Emil said Bandung authorities also closed a spa, which already known as gay-specific base camp.
Emil assessed government and law enforcement to fight LGBT still weak. There is no legal umbrella which can enforce to crack down on LGBT activities in Indonesia.
"We already knew that there is no formal law that can take action against LGBT, except it happens in the public space," Emil added.
Emil said as long as there is no law to crack down on LGBT, Bandung City Government only can give appeal and attempt to take action in public sphere. It means they will continue to work hard, to act in accordance with the formal law.
