REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The panel of judges rejected objection plea of Setya Novanto. Presiding judge Yanto said, the examination of the defendant in the e-ID card procurement graft case can be proceed. "Objection from the former House of Representatives's speaker lawyer is unacceptable," said judge Yanto in an interlocutory verdict on Corruption Court, Jakarta, on Thursday (January 4). 

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) welcomed the court's decision. KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said, in the trial, KPK will detail the involvement of former Golkar Party Chairman in corruption that caused the state lose up to Rp2,3 trillion.

"We will go to the next stage and KPK will provide more prove that detail the defendant's actions, including the alleged receipt of money related to this case," he explained.

According to him, the verdict of judges has very clearly stated KPK prosecutor's indictment is valid and can be used as a basis to examine the House of Representatives speaker.

In his indictment, Novanto was charged with misusing authority as a member of the Parliament in e- ID procurement project. Novanto's actions caused the state losses of Rp 2,3 trillion. According to the prosecutor, Novanto directly or indirectly intervened in budgeting and procurement of goods and services in e-ID project on 2011-2013. 

According to prosecutors, Novanto has been enriched himself 7,3 million US dollars and received a Richard Mille watch for 135 thousand US dollars.

On the other hand, KPK also invited Novanto to propose himsef to be a justice collaborator (JC), perpetrator who works with law enforcers of KPK. "If the defendant has goodwill to be JC, he can submit to KPK. We'll considered it," said Febri. 

According to him, a person who becomes JC must acknowledge his actions and cooperatively open the roles of other parties more broadly. However, JC can not be given to the main perpetrators.

"If he is granted to be JC then the life imprisonment or maximum of 20 years in jail can be lowered," said Febri.

Meanwhile, Setya Novanto said, he respects the decision of Corruption Court on his objection plea. "Thank you, Your Highness the presiding judge, the prosecutors and the counselors. We have listened and I'm very respectful and I will follow in an orderly manner," said Novanto.
