REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Government has allocated funds amounting to Rp6.2 trillion for the development and renovation works of 13 venues of the 2018 Asian Games.

Of the total, Rp370 billion was spent for the development of a hockey field, an ABC football field, an aquatic stadium, and an archery field, which were inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in Bung Karno Stadium complex, Senayan area, South Jakarta, on Saturday.

The Head of State, in his remarks, stated that the Bung Karno Stadium must become a public space.

"It means that it is not only for sport activities but also for various activities of the public. It becomes an open space for the public to use it," he noted.

He lauded the completion of the sport facility development in the stadium, saying that the new facilities have made the environment in the stadium different.

Jokowi was informed that various other facilities, including for bicycle track, and a facility for disabled people will also be developed.

Minister of Public Works and People's Housing Basuki Hadimuljono revealed that the government is building nine other sports venues dedicated to the Asian Games.

According to Hadimuljono, the construction of all sports arenas for the Asian Games will be completed by December 2017.
