REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --  has opined that the government and public should pay greater attention to the victims of crime.

"The LPSK has expressed hope that care for the victims of crime must be improved at least to be the same as that offered to the victims of natural disasters," LPSK chairman Abdul Haris Semendawai remarked here on Tuesday.

Semendawai said the attention given by the government and public to the victims of disasters has been satisfactory, but the victims of crime should have also been given similar treatment.

"Without the help of the community and also other elements, the victims of crime must fend for themselves to lead a life following the traumatic incident," Semendawai remarked.

In the meantime, activist of the Justice Commission for Peace of Pastoral Migrants and Perantau (KKPPMP) Reinhard Simanjuntak welcomed the move of the LPSK to raise awareness to strengthen services, including the treatment offered to the victims of crime.

"KKPPMP colleagues often find and handle victims of crime," Simanjuntak remarked.

KKPPMP Coordinator Father Paschal said the KKPPMP has established several forms of cooperation with the LPSK in connection with the handling of victims of trafficking in Batam.
