Egypt sends delegation to Gaza to observe reconciliation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GAZA -- A senior Egyptian security delegation arrived in the Gaza Strip on Monday to observe the implementation of an internal Palestinian reconciliation agreement reached in Cairo in Oct. 12.

Zeyad Abu Amro, Deputy Prime Minister of the Palestinian consensus government received the Egyptian delegation, who had arrived earlier through Erez crossing point on the borders between Israel and northern Gaza.

The delegation included the Egyptian Envoy to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Khaled Sami and Intelligence Security official Hammam Abu Zeid.

Amro said in an emailed press briefing that the Egyptian delegation was briefed on the recent development of the internal reconciliation and power handover to the Palestinian government.

The Egyptian delegation's visit aimed to bridge the gaps between Islamic Hamas movement and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party during the power transfer process, said the statement.

The Egyptian delegation also held talks later on Monday with Hamas Chief Yehya Sinwar at his Gaza office.
