REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially arrested suspect in e-ID card graft-case, Setya Novanto.
Novanto who is also the House of Representatives speaker will be under detention for 20 days from Friday (November 17) to Wednesday (December 6).
His status now is as detainee of the detention center of East Jakarta Police Station branch KPK.
Nevertheless, KPK transferred Novanto to state-owned hospital Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM), Central Jakarta, from Medika Permata Hijau hospital as he still needed treatment after having car accident at Permata Hijau, South Jakarta, on Thursday (November 16) night.
"KPK holds detention for SN (Setya Novanto) for allegedly to have committed corruption in the procurement of e-ID card. We have adequate evidences to arrest him," spokesperson of KPK, Febri Diansyah said at his office on Friday (November 17).
Febri explained, the doctor from RSCM stated Novanto had to be hospitalized for further examination and treatment. Therefore, KPK allowed him to get medical assistance.
"On the other hand, his lawyer refused to sign the dispatch letter. The investigator then prepared the denial of the arrest report, but the lawyer also refuse to sign the document," Febri said.
On Wednesday evening, the anti-graft agency visited Novanto's residence to arrest him for having frequently failed to meet the KPK's summons in a graft case concerning the electronic identity card project worth over Rp5 trillion.
The state is estimated to have lost Rp2.3 trillion due to the corruption.
Novanto, however, was not found at his residence in the evening.
On Thursday, Novanto was found in Medika Permata Hijau hospital, South Jakarta. He had a car accident in the area.
