REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) is keen that Indonesia, as one of the members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, continues to broker reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah for the realization of Palestinian independence.
"Sustainable efforts to reconcile Hamas and Fatah must continue to be pursued, as several attempts had failed. Every effort should also receive international support to improve the Palestinian membership status in the UN," PKS' Chairman of Foreign Development Sukamta stated in a release received by Antara here, Friday.
Sukamta asserted that Palestine still cannot be freed from the Israeli occupation due to internal and external factors, among others.

The member of Commission I of the House of Representatives pointed out that one of the internal factors was disunity in the Palestinian government.
"However, developments in Palestine's internal conditions today are quite significant with the signing of a reconciliation agreement between Hamas and Fatah, which had been at loggerheads with each other for a decade," Sukamta said.
Indonesia is also expected to share its experiences in achieving independence through the two approaches of physical struggle and diplomacy, he added.
According to Sukamta, the physical struggle and diplomacy coupled with the solidity of Palestine and full international support will open a wide road to Palestinian independence.
Earlier, the Indonesian government had pushed for a peace agreement between Hamas and Fatah in order to strengthen the struggle for Palestinian independence.
"Of course, we welcome the peace agreement between Hamas and Fatah. We encourage the reconciliation of Hamas and Fatah, so that Palestinians will unite to achieve independence," Foreign Ministry's spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir recently said.
Nasir remarked that with the signing of the peace agreement between Hamas and Fatah, Indonesia will also provide more development assistance to Palestine, especially in Gaza.
