REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --  Investigators of the Jakarta Police on Friday questioned netizen Jonru F. Ginting, who is known for his criticism against President Joko Widodo and was named a suspect in a hate speech case.

"He was named a suspect after the case was opened," Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono, a spokesman of the Jakarta Police, noted here.

Yuwono had earlier stated on Thursday that investigators of the Jakarta Police's special crime unit had questioned Ginting as a witness in the hate speech case.

Furthermore, based on two pieces of evidence, the police had named Ginting a suspect on early Friday.

Meanwhile, Ginting denied an allegation that he had uploaded hate content on the social media account: Muannas Al Aidid.

Ginting admitted to being ready to face legal proceedings in connection with the case.

Ginting's lawyer claimed that his client had not insulted Widodo as a president but had merely expressed his critical views regarding him as a presidential candidate during the campaign period.

The Law Advocacy Agency of the National Democratic Party Muannas Alaidid reported Ginting, also known as Jon Riah Ukur, to the Jakarta Metro Police over allegations of a hate speech that had insulted President Widodo on social media on Aug 31.
