REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Minister of Agriculture, Amran Sulaiman, has launched two new varieties of Green Super Rice (GSR), namely, Inpari 42 Agritan GSR and Inpari 43 Agritan GSR, which have higher yield and are environment-friendly.

"Inpari 42 and Inpari 43 can produce 10 tons of rice per hectare," Amran said at the launch here, Monday.

The minister explained the new varieties would aid higher production and were more environment-friendly, because they could survive and grow without pesticides, chemical fertilizers or water.

In addition to these, the GSR rice varieties are also capable of producing high yields in sub-optimum conditions, such as drought and flooding. Therefore, the rice varieties are expected to overcome problems arising from global climate change.

Inpari 42 Agritan GSR and Inpari 43 Agritan GSR were produced through a research made by the Agricultural Research and Development Agency. They can produce about 10 tons per hectare in multi-location conditions test, and higher yields are possible by providing optimal environmental conditions.

In 75 percent of the fertilizer recommendation doses, the two varieties are still able to produce respectively 5.2 tons per hectare and 6.71 tons per hectare due to their deep roots.

Inpari 42 Agritan GSR and Inpari 43 Agritan GSR also have a high rice rendering (over 65 percent), with the appearances of crystal-like clear grains, and delicate texture which is favored by most Indonesians.

Up to July 2017, 1.4 tons of Inpari 42 Agritan GSR and 1.3 tons of Inpari 43 Agritan GSR have been distributed in West Java and Central Java Provinces.
