REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said the Jakarta Police had questioned the head of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Habib M. Rizieq Shihab, in Saudi Arabia.

"The investigating team went there (Saudi Arabia) to question him (Habib Rizieq)," Tito stated in Jakarta, Friday.

The investigators are still analyzing the response of the suspect to the questioning in the alleged online leak of sexually explicit material through a chat.

Tito stressed that the police questioned Habib Rizieq in Saudi Arabia because he was performing umroh (minor hajj). The investigators will then wait for the FPI leader to return to Indonesia, he added.

"After he returns home he will be re-examined if necessary," the four-star police general revealed.

Earlier, the police named Habib Rizieq and Firza Husein as suspects for allegedly spreading pornographic content and vulgar photographs through chats on May 29.

Habib Rizieq has been charged under Article 4 paragraph 1, in conjunction with Article 29 and/or Article 6, in conjunction with Article 32, and/or Article 9, in conjunction with Article 34 of Law Number 44 of 2008 on pornography, which carries a punishment of over five years in prison.

Firza is charged under Article 4 paragraph 1, in conjunction with 29, and/or Article 6, in conjunction with 32, and/or Article 8, in conjunction with 34 Law Number 44 of 2008 on pornography, which carries a punishment of confinement over five years.

Investigators suspect Habib Rizieq has been in Saudi Arabia since April 26, 2017 to avoid police summons.
