REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSA DUA -- Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief General Gatot Nurmantyo has urged the public to be wary of the seeds of discord that are currently starting to surface to trigger disintegration among religious believers.
"Do not allow any conflict to occur between believers of different religions that can harm the integrity of our nation and state," the TNI chief stated during a Nationality Parisadha Hindu Dharma meeting here on Saturday.
At the meeting, attended by thousands of religious and public figures, General Nurmantyo appealed to the public to participate in reducing the potential for conflict and to not allow the seeds of discord to arise.
He further reminded the public to strengthen unity in the framework of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, or Unity in Diversity, to defend the sovereignty and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
"The key to maintaining the unity and integrity of NKRI is the state ideology of Pancasila, which had been formulated and agreed upon by religious leaders in the early days of independence," Nurmantyo noted.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that Pancasila has strengthened the character of the Indonesian nation.
"Pancasila has an important role in strengthening the character of the Indonesian nation. We are grateful that our commitment has been unified," Jokowi said during the 9th Pancasila Congress held at the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta recently.
The president remarked that the university had an important role to play in supporting Indonesia to gain its independence.
He pointed out that technology in the world had developed rapidly in areas ranging from transportation to finance and media.
Jokowi said the younger generation was using sophisticated technology.
Most youth today belong to Generation Y, which has grown up in the midst of the hustle and bustle of developments in wireless technology.
"Generation Y has become a potential human resource to be developed apart from being a huge market," he noted.
The president said such changes should not undermine the character of the nation.
