Turkish President urges Iran-Turkey cooperation on Syria

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ANKARA -- Turkish President Abdullah Gul here on Saturday called on Iran and Turkey to make joint efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria.

Speaking to reporters, President Gul said Tehran believes there are some opportunities to settle the Syrian crisis.

Referring to Iran's nuclear talks with the West, the Turkish president said the talks along with a peaceful solution to Iran?s nuclear dispute would lead to global peace.

President Gul added that in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last September, he had stressed the need for Tehran-Ankara cooperation to solve the Syrian problem.
